The AFEEC & FAPECA Conference, a prestigious international event, is set to take place in Bali on September 23-25, 2025, at the Ayodya Hotel in Nusa Dua, Badung. The conference, themed "Energy Transition: Towards Clean and Sustainable Energy," is expected to attract 200–300 participants from both Indonesia and abroad.

At this international gathering, PT Symphos Electric—Weltraf Transformer affirmed its commitment to spearheading Indonesia’s green energy transition, particularly through energy infrastructure support for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). Their main breakthrough is the use of transformers utilizing eco-friendly ester oil, a clean alternative to conventional mineral oil.

According to Firhan Roebani, General Manager of PT Symphos Electric—Weltraf Transformer, an impressive 80% of the transformers they currently supply to the IKN region have adopted this ester oil technology.

Driving Innovation: Dry Transformers and Efficiency Solutions

Weltraf’s innovation extends beyond ester oil. The company is actively developing Dry (Cast Resin) Transformers. This type of transformer requires no oil at all, resulting in lower maintenance costs and fully supporting the green energy concept for the industrial sector.

In addition to transformers, Weltraf introduced energy efficiency solutions relevant to key sectors like mining and IKN:

  • Containerized Substations (Compact Substations): This solution offers significant time and cost efficiency. "Work at mining sites can be done faster and more efficiently than with conventional concrete substations. The design is flexible, mobile, customizable, and easily lifted with a crane as it uses standard containers," Firhan explained.

  • These compact substations have already been deployed in several PLN projects within the IKN area, underscoring Weltraf's role in building efficient and modern infrastructure.

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Introduced as a complementary solution for optimizing energy in mining and other large-scale projects.

The Challenge of Imports and Local Content (TKDN)

Despite leading these innovations, Weltraf faces a significant hurdle concerning the Local Content Level (TKDN) regulation. The ester oil crucial for their green transformer technology is not yet mass-produced in Indonesia and must be imported.

“Pertamina has attempted to produce transformer ester oil, but it has not materialized yet. Meanwhile, PLN continues to push for an increase in TKDN every year,” Firhan stated.

He acknowledged that the imported ester oil is currently 30% more expensive than mineral oil. However, he stressed that local production would be a game-changer. Domestic production would not only reduce costs and boost competitiveness but also fundamentally support PLN's TKDN targets and strengthen Indonesia’s green energy ecosystem.
